Dating an alcoholic can be terrifying, but also dramatic and emotional—key components of romance. Maybe it's where I live, but I've known a good many alcoholic men, and it's remarkable how well they do with women. Ever met someone with a propensity to date alcoholics? I wasn't shocked that Lisa stuck with Matt for ages; I wasn't surprised how many times she gave him "one last chance" when he swore he was going to stop drinking; I was unastonished at the excuses she made for him, to me and to herself. I've been a lurker for awhile and would appreciate some insight. My husband and I have been together for 10 years, married for 7 months.
Alcoholism: This word probably makes you feel uncomfortable, right?
Compared to my ex-boyfriend before him — who repeatedly cheated on me — Jake was perfect.
He was charming and attentive, and he made me feel like he would never be unfaithful to me.
For the 9 1/2 years that led to the wedding he did some minor things that bothered me/made me wonder if we should get married.
However, I brought up all the issues to him before the wedding and he agreed that some changes needed to be made for things to work.
